If you like Chardonnay for its complexity and character, but you do not like the overwhelming buttery and oaky notes of some of the “big” Chardonnays from Napa, you may like to try this Villa Margon from the Lunelli family (winemakers of the Ferrari wines). It’s at a very affordable price, but the real deal with this Villa Margon is that it integrates very well the tropical fruit, the acidity and the minerality.
At the nose, scents of white flowers, stone fruits, limestone and notes of flint - together with a hint of saffron. At the palate it is smooth and balanced, with a pendulum between the acidity and the minerality on one side and the tropical fruits on the other, in a long persistent finish.
Pairing: I like it with cheese fondue and white truffle, but it can be a great pairing for salmon and fennel sauce, grilled calamari or many other seafood-based recipes.
Appellation: Trentino DOC, Italy
