In the Langhe area of Piemonte (which includes the municipalities of Barolo and Barbaresco), the Nebbiolo grape can really give its best. This wine, dedicated by the winemaker to “the smile of his son Ivan”, is an excellent value for the quality. At the nose, an immediate explosion of roses and red fruit (strawberry and raspberry jam), followed by blood, bay leaves, orange zest and white pepper. In the mouth, it is warm and persistent with elegant tannins.
Pairing: Nebbiolo is great with braised and stewed beef, but I also like it with a pork shank or any roasted meat. Great also with a piece of aged cheese at the end of the dinner.
Appellation: Langhe DOC, Italy
