Frederic Magnien is the fifth generation of the Magnien family to manage this domain in Burgundy, France with parcels of land in 31 different cru in the villages of Vosne-Romanée, Saint Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. The winery is certified organic since 2008 and biodynamic since 2015.
Vieilles Vignes in Vosne-Romanée is neighbor with the world celebrated Domain de la Romanée-Conti and its super-cru La Tache and Richebourg. For 10-20% of their price (yes 10-20% of it, not 10-20% less!) you find here a superbly elegant Pinot Noir, with scents of geranium, cassis, sour cherries, mint, chocolate and vanilla, iron, wet sand, ashes, paprika and leather. At the palate it is smooth but not velvety, with crispiness and sapidity mixing with persistent fruity notes. The tannins are integrated and elegant, making this wine harmonious and intense yet light in a positive sense. Excellent choice if you like Pinot Noir and you do not want to drink (always) super-structured reds.
Grape: Pinot Noir
Pairing: This elegant Pinot Noir is excellent with a poached king Alaskan salmon or a more informal and friendly barbecue with sausages and beef. If you, like me, enjoy drinking great wines with simple food, try it with pasta cacio e pepe or eggplant parmigiana.
Appellation: Bourgogne Vosne-Romanée AOC, France
