This wine is more complex, balanced and smooth than many other Gruner Vertliners you may find on the market. It is mineral, with notes of wet stones and sandy shoreline in a day of big waves. But at the nose, you also get apricots, sweet spices, herbs and honeysuckle. It is persistent, and the long finish brings the seashells again, with lots of fruit and floral notes.
Grape: Gruner Veltliner
Pairing: Aperitif with nuts and olives, a cheese board or a grilled cheese sandwich. Smoked salmon but also seafood pasta.
Appellation: Niederösterreich, Austria
Not far from Vienna, it is the most important region for Austrian viticulture. The discovery of prehistoric grape seeds suggests that viticulture in the area stretches back to the Bronze Age, before the Romans planted hectares of vineyards, and Bavarian monks built in the Middle Ages the terraces still visible today.
