A Lisa is made in the little-known but very interesting Rio Negro appellation in Argentina. At the nose it is fresh and crisp, with a note of blood (minerality) accompanying the red geranium, plum, orange zest and a bit of leather. At the palate it is an explosion of berries and plums with a citrus note, and the tannins are elegant and integrated. Balanced and persistent.
Grapes: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon
Malbec is a grape originated in the southwestern part of France, but became famous only when the first Argentinian wines (mainly from the Mendoza region) came to the USA.
Pairing: It is great with any kind of succulent or roasted meat, with eggplant parmigiana, pulled pork and mashed potatoes.
Appellation: Rio Negro AO, Patagonia, Argentina
Rio Negro is in the middle of the Patagonia desert, more than 700 miles south of Buenos Aires. It is close to the river bed coming from the Andes, so that fields can be irrigated. Grapes here benefit from the typical desert climate - hot during the day and cool in the night, - developing the backbone of acidity that is often lacking in other warmer expressions of Argentinian Malbec. The result is a more complex and balanced wine.
