The Montepulciano grape is produced in mass quantities on the Eastern Central Coast of Italy and most of it is used to blend and add body to other grapes, such as Sangiovese. When in purity it tends to be a little harsh with firm tannins.
Not this Villa Barcaroli: smoothness is the key characteristic of this bottle. Very pleasant at the nose, it starts with red fruit and sweet spices like paprika, then flowers and a herbaceous note complete the bouquet.
At the palate it is smooth and fruity but completely dry and crisp. It is medium bodied and the tannins are elegant.
One of the best in the market, and the top for quality-price ratio.
Grape: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Pairing: An excellent everyday red wine, great with hamburger, cheeseburger, mushrooms and pasta with meat and red sauce.
Appellation: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, Italy
