Our Score: 96

This is a bold yet exquisitely refined Barolo hailing from the Cerequio vineyard, which gives it a sumptuous texture and elegant tannins.
At the nose we have plums and roses, cedar notes and mushrooms, liquorice sticks and tar. On the palate it is vibrant yet smooth, tannic and elegant. It has structure while also being harmonious. Since 1980, Angelo Gaja, and more recently his daughter Gaia, brought the Barolo and Barbaresco denominations to a stellar international level, scoring several times close to 100 points in the strictest competitions.
They have always been innovators in the cellar, and now also pioneers organic and biodynamic farming in the super-traditional and change-resistant  area of Langhe, in Piemonte.

Grape: Nebbiolo

Pairing: Braised beef, risotto with porcini mushrooms, and aged dry cheeses are the best with Conteisa. But I would have it also with a more delicate meat, like a pork chop with roasted carrots, or a Greek moussaka.

Appellation: Barolo DOCG Italy
