Aglianico is the main red grape in the Campania and Basilicata regions of Italy. It gives its best expression in the sub-region of Vulture, on the hills of an extinct volcano. It doesn’t look as strong a wine as it is. The nickname of Aglianico in the Somm world is the "Nebbiolo of the South", because it is lighter in color but still has a strength and complexity that make it a great wine. This wine undergoes 10 days of maceration on indigenous yeast. It is spicy and fruity, with some minerality notes from the ashy soil. The tannins are present but elegant enough considering the young age of the vines.
A great value.
